什麼是中風?
A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. Part of the brain cannot get the blood and oxygen needs, Necrosis of the affected nerve cells which caused various neurological symptoms.
here are two main causes of stroke:
1. Hemorrhagic stroke:Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in your brain leaks or ruptures. Brain hemorrhages can result from many conditions that affect your blood vessels.
2. 2.Ischemic attack:This type of stroke is caused by a blockage in an artery that supplies blood to the brain. The blockage reduces the blood flow and oxygen to the brain, leading to damage or death of brain cells.
In Hong Kong, there are 13,000 new cases every year, and an average of more than 3,000 people die from stroke each year. 70% of strokes are caused by the "three highs", that is hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hyperglycemia. The brain is an extremely complex organ that controls various body functions. If a stroke occurs and blood flow can’t reach the region that controls a particular body function, that part of the body won’t work as it should. Stroke is currently the fourth "fatal killer" in Hong Kong. Patients are usually over 50 years old.
Symptoms of stroke:
1. Sudden numbness, especially on one side of the body
2. Sudden confusion and troubling speaking
3. Sudden trouble walking, loss of balance or coordination
4. Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
Factors that increase your risk of stroke include::
1. 1.High blood pressure
2.Cigarette smoking
3.Diabetes
4.High blood cholesterol levels
5.Heavy drinking
6.Age
7.Lack of regular exercise
8.Obesity
Assess the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases:
1.Three highs:70% of strokes are caused by the "three highs", that is hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hyperglycemia. Blood lipids, blood sugar, and blood pressure should be checked regularly to assess their own risk of stroke.
2. Electrocardiography:More than 3,000 people in Hong Kong die from stroke each year, 24% due to atrial fibrillation. The number of patients with the ischemic attack has nearly tripled in the past 15 years. An electrocardiogram can find out the problem of atrial fibrillation, which helps to assess personal health.
3. Carotid intima-media thickness test:It is a measure used to diagnose the extent of carotid atherosclerotic vascular disease. The test can predictive of future cardiovascular events and prevent it earlier.
4. Homocysteine:Homocysteine
Prevention of stroke:
Stroke is the main disease in Hong Kong. The risk factors of stroke are smoking, high blood pressure or obesity, etc. To prevent stroke, people need to pay attention to daily habits, such as stop smoking, healthy lifestyle and regular exercise, etc., which can avoid vascular sclerosis. The most important is people need a regular check-up.
