What is your breakfast for this morning? Egg is definitely indispensable. What about steamed, scrambled, omelette, or sunny side-up, tremendous ways of cooking egg.
However, have you ever heard someone saying that egg is high in cholesterol? Yes, one whole egg contains around 266 mg cholesterol, with guideline suggested by AMA not exceeding 300 mg per day, and high risk person should be less than 200 mg per day. Egg seems to be one of causative culprits of high blood cholesterol. This is a nightmare for "egg idiot". Is it true?
We have been told that total blood cholesterol level should be maintained in a low level. However, our magical body will compensate the low level by producing more cholesterol or vice versa via liver to achieve stable state, leaving the level remains relatively unchanged. Approximately 70% of cholesterol inside body is manufactured by liver.
In fact, egg or you can say egg yolk is not costly but healthy food, riched in lecithin, folic acid, vitamin A, E and B complex especially riboflavin, which acts as an antioxidant against dangerous cancer causing free radicals and is necessary for the production of certain hormones to fight against heart disease.
Complaining heart disease on high cholesterol is like blaming infection on high level of antibodies. New researches from USA supports high blood cholesterol level inside body is not merely due to dietary intake of highly riched cholesterol foods.
I hope the myth has been fully unknocked. Important is to fully aware of daily eating habit and constant exercise, more important is to go for low saturated fat diet and totally reject trans-fat foods.
